From March 1 to March 8, 2008, the Lowcountry will celebrate "Jonathan Green Week.” Inspired by a magnificent new painting of Green’s entitled “Seeking,” a series of cultural events will celebrate the artist and his many contributions to cultural life in the Lowcountry.
“Jonathan Green Week” is a celebration in several art forms, presenting interpretations of “Seeking” and of Green’s extensive work and influence on cultural life in the South. Included in the week’s events are a gala opening at the Gibbes Museum of Art, a Gullah-inspired concert with the world premiere of newly commissioned works, several evenings of poetry and jazz inspired by the painting, and a major art symposium.
The painting "Seeking", which normally hangs in the Library at Mepkin Abbey, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, will be brought to the Gibbes Museum in Charleston, South Carolina from March 1 through August 31, 2008.
Collaborators include the City of Charleston, the Gibbes Museum of Art, the Charleston County Public Library, the Charleston Jazz Initiative, and the Coastal Community Foundation. Conceived and organized by Arts Advocacy, LLC. © 2008
